Courtesies.
- The woman is always right. As in, the female partner dances to the male's right. Improper dances may be exceptions.
- Your posture should be straight-backed with your arms held relaxed at your sides unless otherwise noted in the dancing instructions.
- Each dance begins with a reverence to the Presence, should such be necessary, and then to one's partner.
- As shown in the video below the woman should not bend at the waist when performing a reverence. The man's bow should be simple unless portraying a character choice. This is a place for confident self-expression, like a handshake.
- When joining a line or circle dance such as a branle, go to the end of the line of dancers and take the hand of the last person in the line. If the dancers are in a circle start dancing just behind the line and wait for someone to open the circle up and let you in. The only exception is if those joining the dance significantly outrank those already dancing it. Do not attempt to join a set dance.
- If you are still learning a dance sit out and watch, or form a 'learner's set' to the side or just behind the most experienced dancers. Following their steps is a great way to learn new dances.
